Is VW preparing to jump on the EREV bandwagon?

Volkswagen may be the latest automaker to explore the extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) space: an anonymous industry source informed Bloomberg that the company has plans for the powertrain in the US and Europe. VW has previously left the door open for the technology, depending on consumer appetite, though it's not clear how or where it could feature in the recently trimmed €160bn (US$186bn) five-year spending plan.
